MEET Mr.
Rooney
Mr. Rooney is a black, white and tan Beagle
and native of Crystal Lake, Illinois. An avid Twitterer (www.twitter.mrrooneythedog),
his passion is to spread the word concerning pet and human health
while having fun in the process. He currently leads the security
division, as Vice-President of Security, for Sandra Larkin Wellness
Strategies, LLC (www.sandralarkin.com).
An AKC (American Kennel Club) Champion, Mr.
Rooney was born in November, 2001, and began his winning career as
an AKC Show Dog in 2002. He acquired his AKC Championship on
February 26, 2005 at the famous International Kennel Club of
Chicago Dog Show (www.ikcdogshow.com/).
Along with this team partner, Amanda, Mr. Rooney’s dog show career
produced many first place wins as well as other dog show
distinctions. In addition, the Team of Mr. Rooney and Amanda
produced numerous “Best Junior Handler” awards in a variety of dog
shows as well as Junior Handler regional and interstate events.
This award winning team qualified for both the Westminster Kennel
Club Dog Show (www.westminsterkennelclub.org/)
in New York City and the AKC/Eukanuba National Championship (www.akc.org/
) in California.
In 2006, Mr. Rooney retired from the show ring
and took on a new challenge of becoming an author for Sandra Larkin
Wellness Strategies, LLC monthly newsletters (www.healthyprofitsbook.com/Newsroom.htm).
His exposure to writing and perspective of combining tips for
wellness in the workplace lead to becoming a 2009 published author
in the book “Healthy Profits: The 5 Elements of Strategic
Wellness In The Workplace” (www.healthyprofitsbook.com).
History of His Name
Mr. Rooney’s registered name is “Art “The
Chief” Rooney” named after the founder of the Pittsburgh
Steelers (www.steelers.com/),
Art Rooney. Art Rooney was a family friend and inspiration to Mr.
Rooney’s owner, Keith Larkin, whose grandparents, James and Beatrice
Larkin, lived as neighbors on the North Side of Pittsburgh in the
early years of raising their family.
Upon the death of James Larkin, Art Rooney paid his respects to the
family and confirmed the great stories of their long standing
friendship and neighborhood tales. As an honor to their friendship
and impact Art made to the Pittsburgh community, Keith decided to
name Mr. Rooney after the Pittsburgh legend.
In 2005, Keith sent Mr. Rooney’s Championship photo and letter to
Dan M. Rooney, receiving personal congratulations from Dan and the
Steelers organization. During the 2005 football season, the
Pittsburgh Steelers produced their fifth Super Bowl win over the
Seattle Seahawks in Super Bowl XL. The legacy of the Rooney name
produced two champions in the same year.
Fun Facts
Mr. Rooney lives with Suzie Q, his half sister, Emily, a Boston
Terrier, and Mr. Lincoln, the family’s big black cat. He enjoys all
food but his favorites are popcorn, carrots, sugar snap peas and
anything that falls on the floor. He does not like mushrooms,
ever. Mr. Rooney loves to visit with his best friends, Jo(Ann) and
Jack Oliver of Crystal Lake and enjoys the company of people he gets
to know. In 2009, Mr. Rooney visited a local nursing home where you
could here him howling in the halls to the delight of the
residences. He enjoys children and adults of all ages.
Mr. Rooney can be seen sleeping, chasing birds and rabbits from the
yard, as well as making sure others are safe to enter into the
home. He also likes to stare at people when they’re not watching.
Mr. Rooney enjoys playing chase with his sister until she gives up
and rolling in the yard. At which time, he needs a bath.
Mr. Rooney welcomes everyone to follow him on
